MERIDEN - The fire department is partnering with radio personality Jim Vicevich this weekend in an effort to bring the holidays to soldiers with Connecticut's 192nd Military Police Battalion.
Fire Chief James Trainor said Friday that the department has committed to being a drop-off point for the talk hosts annual collection drive. The department is looking for donations of games, DVDs, cards, gifts made by children, Christmas decorations or other items that could be used to help deliver the holidays to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
There are some restrictions on food but items such as chocolate and other holiday treats are acceptable, but should be placed in a tin or other packaging as they may remain in hot temperatures for several hours.
Items can be dropped off over the next several days at any of the town's career fire stations, Trainor said. The stations are located at 168 Capitol Ave., 61 Pratt St., 561 Broad Street, 260 Sherman Ave. and 1075 E. Main St.
For more information and a more detailed list of items, stop by one of the stations or visit Vicevich's blog on the WTIC website.
