CHESHIRE - The high school boys locker room received a deep cleaning over the weekend but the Cheshire Gridiron Club president is concerned that it won't be enough to address illnesses among football players.

Club president and football parent Robert Daly doesn't think the current cleaning contractor, Advantage Maintenance, does an adequate job maintaining the locker rooms. He contacted his former employer,

ServiceMaster Albino Services in Waterbury, and the company agreed to clean the locker rooms over the weekend at no cost to the town. Daly, who now works for Yale University, estimated the cost of the service between $900 and $1,200.

High School interim Principal Kevin Ryan and School Superintendent Greg Florio said Daly contacted school officials too late and that Advantage Maintenance had already planned to come in and deep clean the lockers.

"We have a cleaning service," Ryan said. "Our maintenance supervisor decided he'd rather use our internal company… he wanted to oversee the project himself and use our own people."

"If the offer had been made further in advance, we would have considered it," Florio said.

Welcome to the discussion.
