CHESHIRE - Last year, a home energy audit with efficiency improvements through the Clean Energy Fund cost $375. That same service this year costs $75, thanks to increased subsidization from the fund.
Opportunities for energy savings through the Clean Energy Fund such as the audit are becoming more well known to Bethany homeowners through the town's Clean Energy Task Force, vice chaired by Bethany resident Michael Okrent.
Bethany is part of the Clean Energy Fund's Community Energy Savings Project, which offers town governments solar panels, LED lights and other energy-efficient devices if homeowners are encouraged to reduce their energy use. Cheshire will take part in the program after unanimous Town Council approval Tuesday.
Cheshire Town Manager Michael Milone said the energy commission will spearhead the effort to get the word out.
"What it'll do hopefully is extend to homeowners and business a lot of the information on participation," Milone said. "Our role is just to be an active participant in disseminating information."
