Missing Wisconsin teen found; man police say she ran away with still at large

MERIDEN — Police are still on the lookout for a local man wanted on sexual assault charges after the 16-year-old Wisconsin girl he was traveling with was picked up late Wednesday in Clinton.

She had been missing from her home for nearly two weeks.

Sgt. Joe Flynn, of the Clinton Police Department, said the girl was picked up by Clinton police at about midnight Wednesday at the home of a friend. Flynn said a resident called police, saying she was in the area.

Wisconsin police say the girl ran away with Tyler Hand, 20, of Meriden, on June 13. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the two met on the Internet and engaged in an illegal relationship. Hand is wanted on second-degree sexual assault charges.

Flynn said the girl was cooperative with officers, said she had not seen Hand in several days and did not know his whereabouts.

According to Wisconsin police, Hand was arrested at some point when he attempted to visit the girl and was told not to contact her again.

Meriden police spokesman Lt. Sal Nesci said the department was assisting in the investigation by following up several leads in an effort to locate Hand.

According to Wisconsin police, Hand was last seen on surveillance video buying two Greyhound bus tickets to Hartford.

Anyone with information on Hand’s whereabouts is asked to call police.
