Mission and retreat

The Silver City Council 2 Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation will be sponsoring a Citywide Mission and Retreat Sept. 16 through 18 at the Meriden Catholic parishes. There is no cost to attend and no collection will be taken. The Mission and Retreat will be led by Deacons Eddie Ensley and Robert Hermann. The Mission and Retreat sessions will follow for three evenings: Monday, Sept. 18, at Holy Angels Campus, Main Street, South Meriden; Tuesday, Sept. 19, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Campus, Goodwill Avenue; and Wednesday, Sept. 20, St. Rose of Lima, Center Street. A coffee and reception will follow the final evening.

Over eaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous will meet every Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Connecticut Baptist Home, 292 Thorpe Ave., step meeting. For information, call or text Sharon at 860-770-1557.

Ziti Dinner

The Meriden Retreat League will be sponsor its annual ziti dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at St Joseph Church, Rosary Hall, 22 Goodwill Ave. The menu consists of salad, Ziti, baked chicken, meatballs, sausage and peppers, desserts and drinks. Walk ins welcome.

Chili cook-off

The third annual chili cook-off will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main. Judges are needed. For more information, call 203-639-1487.

1711 Solomon Goffe House

The Solomon Goffe House, 677 N. Colony St., will offer presentation throughout the year. The House is open the first Sunday of the month through November from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tours are available for schools and private groups. Women’s support group

Neighborhood watch meeting

Jewish Holidays

Temple B’nai Abraham has announced the High Holy Days for the Jewish community will be starting on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Temple is located at 127 E. Y’s Men meeting

Y’s Men of Meriden will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the YMCA, 110 West Main St. Martin Cobern, Ph.D., retired petrochemical engineer, will speak on “Physics, Petroleum & Pricing: The science behind our present and future oil crises”. Volunteer drivers needed

Senior Transportation Services, Inc., a nonprofit transportation service for citizens age 55 and older, needs volunteer drivers willing to commit to two hours a week of transporting seniors to out-of-town medical appointments. Poetry Society meeting

The Meriden Poetry Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the Marion Cook Room of the Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller St. The winners of the Paul Ott/Meriden Poetry Society Contest will receive their prizes at this meeting. Plans for the coming year will be discussed. Poets are invited to bring recently written poems to share.

QRWA fall clean up

It’s time again for Quinnipiac River Watershed Association’s River Clean Up from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at QRWA Headquarters, 540 Oregon Road. This fall’s event will include our regular shoreline and boating efforts. QRWA will provide trash bags, gloves and some waders. Members will be on site to guide the event. Screenwriters workshop

The Meriden YMCA is offering a screenwriter’s workshop for students in grades four through eight. A one-of-a-kind program fosters early vocational writing endeavors of fourth through eighth grade students. The finished screenplays will be cast using the Meriden Youth Theatre at the YMCA, and performed at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center. Blood pressure program

The YMCA is launching a new program for those at risk for or suffering from high blood pressure and or hypertension. The goals of this program are to provide you with the tools to reduce blood pressure, help you develop new skills for managing blood pressure, enable you to identify and control those triggers that raise blood pressure and the knowledge to adopt healthier eating habits. This is a four month program. Office hours begin 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the YMCA.
