Veterans

The Town of Southington Veterans Committee is keeping a data base of all U.S. Military Veterans that joined the military as residents of Southington. If you joined the military from another Town or State you are not eligible.

Art Exhibit

Martin P.N. Gent of Cheshire will be exhibiting his paintings until Aug. 31 at The Gallery at The Orchards, 34 Hobart St. The title of his show is “Watercolor and Acrylic Paintings.” Martin paints landscapes in an impressionist mode. Probate Forum with the Judge

The public is invited to the free “Ask the Judge” forums at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Southington Public Library, 255 Main St. Registration is suggested. Healthy Living Outreach

The Southington Public Library offers the Healthy Living Outreach table weekly to Wheeler Clinic Senior Community Health Outreach Coordinator, Justine Micalizzi. August Library programs

The Southington Public Library will offer Books and Fancy Bagels at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, All Day Solar Eclipse Event: continuous showing of NOVAs Secrets of the Sun in the Library Meeting Room at 10 a.m., 12, 2, 4 and 6 p.m. Arrive early, as before each showing there will be an opportunity to make a simple “Card Projector” for viewing the solar eclipse as well as materials for building a Northern Hemisphere Sundial. Community Pet Loss Support – COPES

Have you recently lost a special pet? Join Southington COPES veterinary community volunteers at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, on the Mezzanine at the library, 255 Main St. By sharing memories of your pet in a calm group setting, COPES hopes to restore a sense of peace for any pet owner. Traditional yoga

The Southington Arts Council, Inc. in the lower level of the Southington Historical Society Building, 239 Main St., will present a six weeks session of “Traditional Yoga” beginning the first week of September. A donation is ask for participating. All donations go to The Southington Arts Council, Inc, for future programs and a scholarship which is presented to a Southington High senior who plans a college major in the Arts.

Kick-Fit Kickboxing

The Southington Recreation Department in partnership with Leadership Martial Arts to offer a Kick-Fit Kickboxing fitness and self-defense program for men and women ages 14 and up. Participants will select one of two available 6-week sessions: Session 1 will start Sept. 11; Session 2 will start Sept. 12. All classes will take place at Leadership Martial Arts, 1156 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Plantsville. Class times vary by weekday. There is a fee to participate which includes boxing gloves. Volunteer drivers needed

Senior Transportation Services, Inc., a nonprofit transportation service for citizens age 55 and older, needs volunteer drivers willing to commit to two hours a week of transporting seniors to out-of-town medical appointments. Blast from the past car show

The American Legion Auxiliary from Post 72 Southington is sponsoring a Blast from the Past Car Show to raise money for our Centennial celebration from 9 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20. The rain date is Aug. 27. Food and beverages were will be available to purchase. DJ Richard Lupkas will provide the music. There will be a 50/50 raffle among other raffles as well. Car Show

The Summit at Plantsville and The Connecticut Road Lancers will be hosting a car show from 11 a.m. 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at 261 Summit St. Food trucks, die cast car vendors, crafters, and vendors. are all needed. All cars up to 1986-there will be no admission or entrance fee.

Artist of the month

Rita Sarris, Ann O’Brien and Maria Colacrai, of Cheshire, will be exhibiting their paintings at The Gallery at The Orchards Sept. 1 - 30. The title of the show is “A Conversation With Art.” The mediums used are oils, pastels and acrylics. A reception is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. The public is welcome to attend. Class of 1945 reunion

Members of the Lewis High School, class of 1945 will be gathering for the 72 year reunion on Sunday, Sept. 17, 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Manor Inn, 1636 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. If interested in attending, call Marie at 860-628-5153.

Accepting applications

The Assessor’s Office is accepting applications for the additional local Veterans Exemption through Sept. 30. This exemption is income based. Limits are $59,600 for single persons and $67,200 for married couples. Questions may be directed to the Assessor’s Office at 860-276-6205.

Class reunion

The Southington High School, class of 1962 has scheduled its 55th reunion from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Southington Country Club, Back Nine Tavern. Southington High School class reunion

Class of 1977 will celebrate its 40 years Friday, Sept. 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Hawk’s Landing Country Club in the Bella Vista Room, 201 Pattonwood Drive.
