This kitchen remodel in Cromwell is some of Nadeau carpentry's handiwork.

Michael J. Nadeau Carpentry, a home improvement center on Four Rod Road in Berlin, is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

“I started in 1987 and I’ve been at this site for 17 years,” said Nadeau. “Before that it was in Cromwell and I ran it out of my garage.”

Today the business features a showroom and a design center, where Nadeau, 63, works with a staff of four carpenters, a designer and a showroom manager. His wife, Paula, does the bookkeeping.

Nadeau called his shop: “A one stop shop for home improvement. We do all the work ourselves.”

The shop specializes in home makeovers, from kitchen and bathroom renovations to decks, patios, sun rooms and flooring.

Nadeau grew up in Berlin and graduated from Berlin High School. He started working in carpentry with his father, Roland Nadeau, and his uncle, Zoel Nadeau, in 1969. “My dad was a builder and I grew up working for him,” Nadeau said. “There’s a lot of history in this town.”
