Carasiti one step away from the big leagues

The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, has announced that closer Matt Carasiti has been promoted from the Yard Goats to Triple-A Albuquerque. He joins the Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League.

The Berlin, Connecticut native is currently leading the Eastern League with 29 saves and 22 games finished. He went 0-2 with 29 saves and 2.31 ERA in 38 relief outings at Hartford. The Eastern League All-Star selection last pitched for the Yard Goats on Thursday, July 21 at Reading and recorded a save while retiring all four batters faced.

Carasiti was a star at Berlin High School before going on to St. John’s University and becoming the Rockies’ 6th round draft pick in 2012. He was the only Connecticut native on the Yard Goats roster.

Carasiti, 25, has spent the entire season with the Yard Goats in his first season at the Double-A level. He recorded the Yard Goats first ever save on Opening Day 2016, April 7 at Richmond. He recorded 29 saves in 33 save opportunities from April 7 through July 21.

Carasiti recorded saves in eight consecutive appearances, June 17 through July 8 and 12 of 13 outings from June 17 through July 21. The right-handed reliever converted on saves in 12 of his last 13 save chances since June 15.
