The Berlin Little League 11/12 All Star baseball team defeated Avon in the Division 2 championship game 2-0 at Petit Field in Berlin on Friday night, July 22.

Starting pitchers, James Ellis for Berlin and Matthew Leopold for Avon, both had nearly flawless outings, each allowing only three hits. Ellis won the pitching duel thanks to a 2-run second-inning home run by teammate Kasey Ouellette, who drove a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall to drive in the only two runs of the game.

Ellis’ pitching and Berlin’s defense sealed the victory, holding Avon scoreless for the first time in the postseason.

With the win, Berlin advanced to Connecticut Little League’s Final Four in Manchester.
