SOUTHINGTON — A restaurant and bar which serves craft beer and freshly baked pretzels will open on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike Friday.
The Hop Knot will open at 1169 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike at 4 p.m. Friday in the former home of Slanted Shanty. Normal business hours begin Sept. 3.
The restaurant and bar is the businesses’ second location. The Hop Knot opened on Main Street in Middletown in April 2016.
The restaurant serves freshly baked pretzels, stuffed pretzels, pretzel sandwiches and a variety of beers and cocktails. It also offers board games for customers.
Joel Porter previously worked at the Middletown location before being appointed general manager at the Southington location.
“We’ve built a good name for ourselves in Middletown,” he said. “This area is definitely a lot different than Main Street in Middletown.”
“We’re excited to have different clientele,” Porter added. “I think we’ll bring something new, something exciting.”
Construction began on the Southington location about two months ago, Porter said. Workers recently built the bar top, installed the draft system and painted.
The bar seats up to 20 customers, with 80 additional seats throughout restaurant and on the patio. The building is almost 5,000 square feet, according to town records.
“It’s been a long process,” Porter said. “We’re hoping for a good crowd over here.”
