Firefighter injured while extricating motorist in Cheshire crash Wednesday

CHESHIRE — A motorist and a firefighter were taken to the hospital following a crash on West Johnson Avenue Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred near Peck Lane about 7 a.m. Fire Chief Jack Casner said an extrication tool broke and injured the abdomen of a firefighter attempting to free a motorist from a vehicle.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation, Casner said. He was treated and expected to be released late Wednesday morning.

Casner said the motorist was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. The extent of injuries was not immediately clear.
