Watson gets degree at Brown University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — It was graduation day for movie star Emma Watson.

The British actress best known as Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” movies was among 2,000 graduates receiving degrees Sunday from Brown University. She tweeted a photo of herself in cap and gown.

Watson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.

The 24-year-old started at Brown in 2009, the same year she was named the highest-grossing actress of the decade by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Watson had a busy film career during her time as a student, releasing both parts of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “This is the End,” and the recent Biblical epic “Noah.”

Garland hometown celebrates ‘Oz’ 75th

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. — Judy Garland’s Minnesota hometown is preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz,” the film that made her a star.

For the 39th consecutive year, the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, in northern Minnesota, will hold a weeklong festival June 10-15.

This year’s Wizard of Oz Festival — formerly the Judy Garland Festival — will include a number of special events marking the movie’s anniversary.

The festivities kick off with the opening of a new Wizard of Oz exhibit at the Judy Garland Museum.

On June 13, the festival hopes to break the Guinness World Record for most fully costumed Wizard of Oz characters in one place. The current record is 446.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa arrested on pot charge in Texas

EL PASO, Texas — Authorities say rapper Wiz Khalifa has been arrested in West Texas for marijuana possession.

The performer from Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, was stopped at an inspection checkpoint at the El Paso airport. A statement from El Paso police says because Khalifa traveled without identification, a search was ordered and Transportation Security Administration agents found a canister with marijuana. TSA alerted police, who then arrested Khalifa.

He was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and was released after posting $300 bail.

Court records do not list an attorney. A message left at Khalifa’s agency was not immediately returned.

Khalifa posted a photo on Twitter inside of what appeared to be a holding cell.

Khalifa was born Cameron Thomaz in Minot, North Dakota. He was a headliner at an El Paso music festival Saturday.
