Five crashes along Meriden highways Saturday, six-car accident included

MERIDEN   State police are responding to five separate car accidents on highways in the city, Saturday afternoon.

Among them is a six-car crash, according to a state trooper. The accident happened on Route 15 North in the area of exits 67 West and 68 West and also resulted in a separate minor crash, he said. Injuries in the situation are believed to be minor. The section of highway is well-know in the area because the short stretch of road also includes on and off-ramps from Interstate 91 and an on-ramp to Interstate 691, in addition to Route 15.

There was also a one-car crash with a vehicle going off the road and into the woods on Route 15 South, just passed the Department of Transportation entrance to the highway. Injuries are minor and the person was able to get out of their vehicle.

In addition, there are two two-car crashes on Route 15 North, just north of exit 66, which is in Wallingford. Both of those also resulted in minor injuries.

Because of the crashes, there is significant traffic backup throughout Meriden. Traffic on Route 15 North was backed up well into Wallingford as of 12:30 p.m.
