Music Roundup Aug. 12-18: Beach Avenue stops in Hamden, New Haven Jazz Festival

Beach Avenue, a group with connections to Milford and appeared on season 9 of America’s Got Talent, is performing in Hamden at the Ballroom, Aug. 16.

The pop band is named after Beach Avenue, a street in Milford where the band started. The group is made up of Nick Fradiani Jr., Nick Abraham, Ryan Zipp, Nick Fradiani Sr. and Jonah Ferrigno.

To date, Beach Avenue has released two EPs: “Something To Believe In” in 2012 and “Driving That Road” in 2013.

In 2011, Beach Avenue entered and won Mohegan Sun’s regional Battle of the Bands. Three years later, the group auditioned for America’s Got Talent’s ninth season. The musicians performed their original song, “Coming Your Way,” at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif., for celebrity judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B.

The group made it to “Judgment Week” and performed another original song, “Feel the Beat.” The judges, however, did not advance them to the quarter finals.

Beach Avenue’s stop in Hamden is a part of its tour to promote the new singles “Coming Your Way” and “Feel the Beat.”

Beach Avenue is co-headlining with West End Blend at the Ballroom, 295 Treadwell St. Opening for the two groups is duo Ian Biggs & Robbie Chemical. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10.

The New Haven Jazz Festival also begins Aug. 16. The event features free performances on the New Haven Green from groups such as Mike DiRubbo Quintet, Ali Bello & The Sweet Wire Band. Aug. 15 also marks the start of Jazz Week in New Haven, which consists of performances at various bars and restaurants in the area.
