Meriden Elks Lodge celebrates Father’s Day with breakfast

MERIDEN — Fathers and their families exchanged smiles and laughs at the Meriden Elks Lodge on Sunday morning while enjoying breakfast.

It is the first time that the Meriden Elks Lodge No. 35 held a breakfast for Father’s Day.

“It’s just a thank you to all the fathers out there,” said Ed LaFayette, an Elks member who helped organize the event.

Fathers and their loved ones shuffled in and out of the lodge throughout the morning. About 60 families made reservations and walk-ins were expected.

“(We have) eggs made to order, buttermilk pancakes, bacon, sausage, kielbasa, white or rye toast and home fries,” Elks member Michelle Stocking said. “We are very community-oriented and we just want to welcome everyone in and wish them a happy Father’s Day.”

The event was a celebration of community, Elks member Keith Stocking said.

“We are a philanthropic organization, we give to the community, we’re about children, we’re about drug awareness, we’re about helping others,” Stocking said.

The Father’s Day breakfast is just one of many events the Elks Lodge holds throughout the year.

“(It’s) very important for people outside the organization to know that we are a volunteer organization, we are out there, we would like to be out there more in the community to help people,” said Kathy Botsacos, lodge exalted ruler. “We welcome people into the lodge and perhaps make them members and show them what we do here.” 203-317-2235 Twitter: @PetePaguaga
