Meriden remodeling business to replace roof on city home for free

MERIDEN — A city remodeling business will replace a local homeowner’s roof at the company’s expense.

Fiderio & Sons, 687 Broad St., will replace the roof at 65 Glen Hills Road. Homeowner Joyce Landry, 73, has lived in the house, which was built in 1950, for almost 20 years. Landry said she has wanted to replace the roof for several years but could not afford it.

“Meriden has always been good to us,” Fiderio & Sons owner John Fiderio said. “We’ve done different things through the years to help out when we can.”

In 2015, the business assisted in renovating a home that a city family was forced to leave due to its decrepit condition. Fiderio & Sons also completed a siding project at a home for a family displaced by a fire, and has previously donated cabinetry and windows to Habitat for Humanity.

Fiderio salesperson David Laferriere said the roof will cost $7,000 to replace and will be completed in one day sometime in the next two weeks.

Laferriere consulted with the city building department, which recommended Landry’s home. After speaking with Landry, Laferriere felt the home was worthy of a new roof.

Landry said it was a relief to learn that the company would replace the roof at no cost to her.

“We were looking for somebody that was deserving of it, could use our help,” Laferriere said. “Everything lined up and it really seemed to fit for our company to be able to help somebody in our local area.” 203-317-2444 Twitter: @BryanLipiner
