MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police say he sexually assaulted a teenager.
Ewart Haynes, 19, of 2 Botsford St., was charged by warrant Thursday with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
On Aug. 25, 2016 police were dispatched to a home for a report of a sexual assault of a teenager, according to the arrest warrant. The investigation was suspended due to lack of evidence. On May 16, police received new evidence and developed Haynes as a suspect, the warrant said.
Haynes denied the allegations when questioned by officers, the warrant said. Haynes was arraigned Thursday in Meriden Superior Court. According to statements in court, he has no criminal history. A judge released Haynes on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 31. The judge entered a protective order barring Haynes from any contact with the teen and ordered him to stay at least 100 yards away from the teen at all times.
