Meriden man charged with sexually assaulting child

MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police say he improperly touched a child over the course of five years.

Gilberto Patricio Carrillo, 34, of 707 Broad St., first floor., was charged by warrant Thursday with third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

On June 1, police began investigating a report of sexual abuse involving a child after being notified by the state Department of Children and Families, according to Carillo’s arrest warrant.

The child, now 10, told authorities Carrillo improperly touched her on and off since she was about 5, the warrant continued.

Ramiro Alcazar, Carillo’s attorney, advised Carrillo not to give a statement to police.

Carrillo was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. According to statements in court, Carrillo has no criminal convictions.

The judge set bond at $25,000, which Carrillo posted a few hours later. The judge placed a protective order barring Carrillo from any contact with the child. He is due back in court on Aug. 29.
