A Meriden man faces charges after police say he threw more than two pounds of cocaine out of his car window Saturday while leading officers on a pursuit on Interstate 95 in Milford.

Joel Cruz, 34, of 35 Willow St., Meriden, was charged with illegal sale of narcotics, possession of narcotics, destruction of evidence, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, failure to use signal and improper lane change. His bond was set at $250,000.

Authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-95 north at about 6:30 p.m., Milford police said in a statement. The operator, later identified as Cruz, accelerated away from police and began to throw objects out of his car window.

Cruz was apprehended on State Street in New Haven with about $20,000 cash inside his vehicle, police said. Milford police, state police and dogs searched I-95 for objects thrown out of the car and found a kilogram of cocaine, or more than two pounds, on the shoulder of the highway near exit 44
