celebrates 65th opening day

Record-Journal

The Max Sinoway Little League celebrated the 65th anniversary of its founding during Opening Day festivities April 30 at Montowese Park. In addition to the traditional march of players, led by the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department color guard, as well as instrumentalists from Lancraft Fife and Drum Corps, the reading of the Little League pledge and ceremonial first pitch, a new league flag, marking the establishment of the league in 1951 was carried into the ceremony and later raised by players from each of the eight Majors Division teams.

North Haven First Selectman Michael Freda addressed those on hand, as did state Rep. David Yaccarino. League president Rob Manzo presented a plaque to Freda, honoring his longtime support of Max Sinoway Little League. The first selectman expressed his appreciation to the league’s board, officers and the many volunteers who are instrumental in bringing Little League baseball to the youth of the town.

Also cited were improvements at Montowese Park, such as new backstops and press boxes, the result of the collaborative relationship between the league, sponsors, and Town Hall.

Max Sinoway Little League supports approximately 350 boys and girls on 28 teams in Little League, and travel baseball for players age 4 to 12.
