Veteran musician takes the Plainville Choral Society helm

Plainville Choral Society has announced Greg Wilfrid as its new music director. He currently teaches general music, choir, and jazz band at Toffolon Elementary School in Plainville.

Wilfrid holds a B.M. and M.M. from the Hartt School of Music, where he also earned his Kodaly certification. He chairs the Music Ministry and is on the Outreach Committee at First Church, West Hartford. Also, he was the Junior Choir Director of Chorus Angelicus in Torrington for three years, and taught private voice lessons.

Wilfrid performs music regularly as a member of the traditional Celtic folk group “The Jolly Beggars” and as a solo musician performing original songs and traditional folk tunes. He recorded an album of his original songs, “Dust and Soil,” which he released in early 2016.

Wilfrid presents regularly at music education conferences at the collegiate, state, regional, and national levels, on topics such as Storytelling in the Music Classroom and Quality Traditional Folk Repertoire.

Plainville Choral Society rehearses on Mondays, 7 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Bristol.
