PLAINVILLE — People can work out for a cause later this month in the “Barbells for Boobs” event at Crossfit Plainville.

“Sadly a lot of people are affected by breast cancer,” said gym owner Elliott Laden.

Money raised during the Friday event will go to Barbell for Boobs, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer.

Katrina Schmidt, a gym member, will be participating for a personal reason.

“My mom is a survivor,” she said. “It’s just really important.

She will be on a team with her mom and sister.

Participants will team up for a 400-meter run, pull ups, kettlebell swings and other exercises.

All participants are welcome, even those who have never done Crossfit before, Laden said.

Laden participated in the fundraiser two years ago and decided to try it again

To date, Barbell for Boobs has been able to provide 38,517 procedures, serve 20,530 individuals and detect 271 cases of breast cancer through its grant programs.

Admission for the event will be accepted at the door or ahead of time online.

Crossfit Plainville is located on Whiting Street.
