PLAINVILLE — A guide to the candidates for Town Council, as listed on the ballot.

Robert Ciotto (D)

Age: 55

Occupation: Worked in the Insurance industry for over 36 years

Education: Graduated from Bulkeley High School - Hartford, Studied at Tunxis Community College - Bristol

Prior political experience: Served on the Town Council from 2005 to 2011, returned in February 2017 to fill a vacancy. Served on the Inland Wetlands Commission - Secretary 2003 - 2005, served again as Vice Chair from 2013 - 2017

Platform: Will support budgets that achieve goals and balance the need for responsible spending.

Family : 3 boys - Ages 26, 24 and 17 and dog.

Community involvement: Currently an Ordained Minister, involved in youth sports, Plainville Little league and Soccer.

Katherine Pugliese (R)

Age: 66

Occupation: Retired formerly HR supervisor for Electronic Data Systems

Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree CCSU

Prior political experience: 20 years on Town Council

Platform: Support our schools, public safety and town services without creating an undue hardship on the taxpayers.

Family: Married to Robert J. Pugliese, three adult children Erin, Robert and Vincent – three grandchildren

Community involvement: Member of an all-volunteer newspaper, chair Plainville’s Pumpkinfest Pumpkin Patch Committee, former member of the Women’s Club of Plainville and previously a liaison to the Commission on Aging in Plainville.

Platform: We need more small businesses opening and succeeding in Plainville.

Family: Son Benjamin a junior at PHS. Two rescue dogs.

Community involvement: Plainville Little League - coach, board of directors 2006-2010, Plainville Colts - coach, board of directors 2006 - 2010, Plainville Chamber of Commerce - Board of Directors (2004 - 2008), Rotary Club of Plainville - 2013 - 2014, 2017 - present

Scott Saunders (R)

Age: 54

Occupation: Senior Software Engineer, Ricoh USA and a Real Estate Agent

Education: Some college and numerous software industry certifications.

Prior political experience: Plainville Town Council 2009-2017, Co-managed state Rep. William Petit’s campaign last year.

Platform: I believe we need to be optimistic, yet cautious in light of the serious financial problems in Hartford.

Family: Wife Andrea, son Joshua who lives in Florida. Three Mini Poodles and a cat.

Community involvement: Co-founder of Plainville Wings and Wheels, committee member of Plainville PumpkinFest, volunteer at the Plainville Balloon Festival. Previously served on Inland Wetland Commission, was a Justice of the Peace, and a Little League coach.

Christopher Wazorko (D)

Age: 47

Occupation: Stay at Home Dad

Education: Plainville High School, CCSU

Prior Political Experience: Constable 2005-2007, Town Council 2007-present, Vice Chairperson from 1999-2000, 2009-2011, Chairperson from 2000-2003, 2005-2009

Platform: Second to none educational opportunities, smart economic development, ensure properties are being maintained, responsible budgets

Family: Married 19 years, Wife-Raegan, Daughters, Olivia-15, Lillian-13, Amelia-7

Community Involvement: United Way Board of Directors, Plainville Lions Club (Treasurer- 2006-2014), Deputy Treasurer- Michalik for State Senate 2014, Wheeler Regional YMCA Annual Fundraising Campaign, Plainville Girls Travel Basketball (Director- 2016-present)

Danny Carrier (R)

Age: 31

Occupation: Residential Developer (construction supervisor)

Education: High School Diploma, Plumbing Trade School

Prior political experience: 4 years Plainville Town Council

Platform: Moving the community forward and providing current services while keeping the tax increases to a minimum.

Family: Wife Christine. 3 children Cody, Taylor, and Austin.

Community involvement: N/A

Rosemary Morante (D)

Age: 68

Occupation: Retired as Supervisor for Technology and Libraries, Windsor Public Schools

Education: Plainville High School, B.A. from Trinity College, Masters from University of Rhode Island, Sixth Year from University of Hartford

Prior political experience: Completing first term on the Town Council. Council liaison to the Committee on Aging and Conservation Commission. Chairperson of the Plainville Democratic Town Committee.

Platform: Our citizens deserve up-to date infrastructure, strong public schools, and quality services.

Family: nieces and nephews

Community involvement: Current Corresponding Secretary of the Plainville Historical Society and Plainville Relay for Life team member

Deb Tompkins (R)

Age: 57

Occupation: Commercial & Specialty Reinsurance Asset Management at the Hartford Insurance Group

Education: Bristol Eastern, Quinnipiac, Post, and UConn

Prior political experience: 4 years on the Town Council, 6 years as Secretary on the Plainville Republican Town Committee

Platform: Maintain services and a great quality of life in Plainville while still keeping taxes low.

Family: Stella and Newman senior cats, official volunteer dog walker for Oscar Z. and Ava W.

Community involvement: 4 years as an Inland Wetlands Watercourses Commissioner, Liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Liaison to the Recycling Committee

Richard Ireland Jr. (D)

Age: 61

Occupation: Currently unemployed

Education: Southington High School

Prior political experience: 3 terms as Constable, presently Justice of the Peace

Platform: Maintaining services and the quality of life in Plainville while keeping expenditures as low as possible.

Family: wife Rebecca, wife’s guide dog Tatum

Community involvement: member of the Linden Street Steering Committee, Plainville Schools Steering Committee, Chairman Plainville Recycling & Solid Waste Committee, Old Linden Street School committee

Ty Cox (R)

Age: 22

Occupation: student worker

Education: current student at CCSU, major in Management

Prior political experience: none

Platform: Feels schooling and recently completed internship have progressed his communication skills to where he can effectively communicate with council members as well as citizens of Plainville.

Community involvement: volunteer for youth athletics, serving on Republican Town Committee and Pumpkin Fest Committee
