Fatal North Haven fire ruled an accident

NORTH HAVEN — A fatal house fire Saturday has been ruled accidental.

Firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke at a home on the corner of Ridge and Cooper roads at about 8:30 p.m. When engines arrived they found flames coming from the back of the house and went inside to search for residents. They found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire engulfed the first floor and partially extended into the attic, Fire Chief Paul Januszewski said in a statement.

Deputy Fire Chief David Marcarelli said the fire has been ruled an accident, though the exact cause wasn’t determined.
