Investigation in Berlin concerning allegations against deputy police chief

BERLIN — The town has hired an attorney to look into a complaint filed by a police lieutenant against the deputy police chief.

“It’s an ongoing investigation,” Police Chief Paul Fitzgerald said Wednesday.

The complaint against Deputy Police Chief John Klett was filed by Lt. James Gosselin, who recently withdrew his application to replace Fitzgerald as chief. Fitzgerald will retire at the end of October. Klett applied for the position along with Lt. Chris Ciuci.

Fitzgerald said the investigation needs to be completed before the police commission can appoint a new chief.

“They want to prove or disprove those allegations,” Fitzgerald said.

Gosselin was suspended by the commission in November due to rule violations. In March, the commission said the suspension was withdrawn after Gosselin admitted he made a mistake.
