The building was demolished last week by LaRosa Construction of Meriden.
On June 25, 2008 a fire damaged the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike building and caused firefighters to deem the showroom unsafe. A Fire Department investigation into the fire’s cause was closed without result.
The company remained open at the location for service calls. Ace Appliance is now located at 69 West Main St. in Plantsville.
John Dell, an Ace Appliances counter salesman, said after the fire the company moved into the house next door. The house and the building were owned by the same man, who Dell said put the properties up for sale.
Ace Appliances moved to Plantsville, but Dell said it suffered after losing a prime location on the corner of two major roads.
“Nobody comes in like over there,” he said.
After the fire, area residents complained about the dilapidated state of the boarded-up showroom. Dell said the property owner, not the company, was responsible for the building’s condition.
According to the town assessor’s office, Cugino Property Management LLC owns the land. A Winding Ridge Road address is listed for the owner, David Carabetta. His lawyer, Edward Lang of Middletown, did not return calls Monday.
