SOUTHINGTON — Police are investigating four incidents of attempted arson involving vehicles at two apartment complexes on the east side of town.

The incidents were reported on Sunday night and Monday morning, said Lt. Michael Baribault.

Two vehicles in the lot at 500 Pleasant St., a property of the Southington Housing Authority, and two in the lot of Summer Brook Apartments, 35 Darling St,. had rags dipped in an accelerant placed in the area of the gas cap and set on fire, according to Baribault. The rags burned, but didn’t ignite the vehicles.

Police and the fire marshal’s office are investigating. There are no suspects. Police are asking residents to report any suspicious activity in or around vehicles in parking lots.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 860-621-1010 or leave an anonymous tip at 860-276-1234.
