Police: Infant drowns during bath with sleeping mother

A seven-month-old girl drowned Friday in New Britain after her mother fell asleep with the infant in the tub, police said.

Erin Lujan, 34, of 370 High St. Apt. 107, New Britain told police that the baby was being fussy so she took a bath with it to try to soothe her, according to a press release by the New Britain Police Department. One of Lujan’s other children woke her up after noticing water on the floor coming from the bathroom. There were four other children — all younger than 10 — at home at the time, police said.

Lujan was charged with second-degree manslaughter and five counts of risk of injury to a minor. She is being held on $100,000 bond.
