Agent robbed during undercover operation


WATERBURY — Two men have been indicted on charges they robbed a federal agent at gunpoint during an undercover operation that was designed to get guns off Waterbury streets.

The Republican-American reports that 21-year-old Kevin Rodriguez and 32-year-old Calrissian Smith face numerous federal charges as a result of the June 2 hold up.

Prosecutors say the undercover agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was attempting to buy some crack cocaine as part of the undercover operation when the men demanded his cash.

He complied, giving up $1,300 that was to be used in the drug buy.

Authorities found Rodriguez three days later on Birch Street and found $100 bills in his motel room that matched that stolen money. Smith was arrested later in Virginia.
