WALLINGFORD — An Infiniti dealership on the site of the former Vinny’s Home and Garden Center on Route 5 will celebrate its grand opening on Friday.

George Harte Infiniti, 1076 S. Colony Road, opened late last month. The dealership features an 8,000-square-foot showroom and an inventory of more than 200 new vehicles. The service department is also equipped with drive-in bays.

The building is almost six times the size of the previous George Harte Infiniti in West Haven. Construction began last June.

Vinny’s Home and Garden Center closed after a February 2013 blizzard caused its roof to collapse. The property was purchased in early 2014 for $1.2 million.

The Infiniti dealership will join luxury dealerships Audi, Porsche, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz located nearby on Route 5.

“I think that really is a huge benefit to our customers,” Harte said of nearby dealerships.

Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce executive director Dee Nesti is impressed with the design of the dealership.

“I think they are such an asset to the town of Wallingford,” she said of the Harte family. “Their dealership is unbelievably aesthetically well done.”

The Harte group has Infiniti and Nissan dealerships in Hartford and West Haven, and a used car center on Route 5 in Meriden.

“We’re just excited to be in the Wallingford market,” Harte said. “We think it’s one of the best automotive roads in the entire state.”
