WALLINGFORD — A local woman who spends much of her time watching the world from her front window was surprised with a box of cupcakes from a boy named Anthony who noticed her while driving by.
Linda Mercier posted a thank-you note to Anthony, whose last name is unknown, on the Facebook group Wallingford CT Community Forum on Monday. Mercier, who has health problems, wrote that she sits in her front room every day and looks out the window at people walking or driving by.
“I don’t go out much,” she wrote.
On Monday morning, she was surprised with a box of cupcakes and a note on her front steps. At the top of the note was a message written in pen.
“Hi — my son heard you were not doing well. He sees you sitting in the window and wanted to cheer you up,” it says.
Below was another message written in marker.
“Hi, my name is Anthony and I baked this group of cupcakes for you because every time I drive by your house I feel really bad,” the message said. “I feel really bad, I can’t imagine how hard it would be to live in that condition. I hope these will cheer you up!”
Mercier wrote that she was touched “by this sweet and caring message and just want to thank Anthony, the nice and caring person who thought of this old lady sitting in the window every day.”
“People still care!” she added.
The post had over 600 “likes” as of Tuesday morning and dozens of comments commending the gesture.
