There are plenty of outdoor events this weekend to enjoy, including a splash pad day in Meriden, a free outdoor movie in Wallingford, a church tag sale in Southington and an outdoor painting event in Cheshire.

Twilight Summer Music series

When: 7-9 p.m. Friday

Where: Meriden Green, Pratt and State streets

Description: Free concert features Marissa & Kids, playing traditional Latin favorites.

Family and Friends Day

When: 1-5 p.m. Saturday

Where: City Park splash pad, Park Avenue and Franklin Street

Description: A day of fun in the sun with food, music, games, face painting, raffle for school supplies. Hosted by Serenity House Elkanah Ministry.


Garden Market

When: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday

Where: Doolittle Park, 80 S. Elm St.

Description: Local farmers offer food, crafts and other items.

Iconoclasm 2 photography show

When: 1-3 p.m. and 9-11 p.m. Saturday

Where: Knuckleheads, 80 Center St.

Description: The second in a series of art exhibits featuring photographer Jeremy Saffer. The first featured artist Mike D’Antonio from the band Killswitch Engage, who will be on hand to sign a check for the pug charity that sales of his prints benefited, meet fans, hang out and “pass the torch” to Saffer.

Outdoor family movie night

When: 7-10 p.m. Saturday

Where: Doolittle Park, 80 S. Elm St.

Description: The Coalition for a Better Wallingford hosts a free screening of “The Sandlot,” featuring decorated box cars for kids. Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided at no charge for those who RSVP to cbwlfd@gmail.com with full names, email address and a phone number to confirm the reservation.


Church tag sale

When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

Where: First Congregational Church, 37 Main St.

Description: Books, toys, kitchen items, tools, furniture and linens. Free admission, doors open at 9 a.m.

“The Goonies” at the drive-in

When: 6 p.m. Saturday gates open, show begins at sunset

Where: Southington Drive-In, 995 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike

Description: Town residents pay $10 per carload, $15 for non-residents, $2 for walk-ins per person. Cash only. Food vendors, playground on site.


Plein air painting

When: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, 8:30 a.m. setup

Where: Ball & Socket Arts, 493 W. Main St.

Description: Paint the historic, 150-year-old Ball & Socket Factory building and the surrounding sights. Artists of all ages and skill levels welcome.
