WALLINGFORD — A Hartford man faces charges after police say he cashed a forged check from a local business for over $2,000.

Jose Rivera, 48, of 194 Washington St., Hartford, was arrested Wednesday and charged with third-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and third-degree identity theft.

On Nov. 19 a representative from a Wallingford auto body shop reported someone forged and duplicated a company check, according to Rivera’s arrest warrant. The representative said the forged check was cashed for $2,488.

Bank records showed the check was cashed at a Webster Bank in Newington on Oct. 1, the warrant said. The check was made out to Rivera and his name was handwritten on the back.

Rivera was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. The judge released him on a promise to appear in court on May 18. He was ordered not to have contact with the business.
