Police: Wallingford man assaulted, robbed while attempting to meet prostitute in Hamden

A Wallingford man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was assaulted and robbed while attempting to meet a prostitute in Hamden on Friday night.

The 56-year-old was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Hamden police Capt. Ronald Smith said in a statement. His cell phone and other personal items were stolen.

Authorities responded to Second Street about 8:30 p.m. for a report of an unconscious person. After investigating, police determined the Wallingford man attempted meet a prostitute behind a residence on Second Street. When he arrived, he was knocked unconscious by two men between 18 and 20 years old, Smith said.

The Hamden Police Department major crimes unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective William Onofrio at 203-230-4040.
