WALLINGFORD — A Bristol man faces charges after police say he was attempting to break into cars behind a Route 5 business.

Giancarlo Galeano, 36, of 191 Surrey Drive, Bristol, was charged Monday with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny. He was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday. A judge set bond at $5,000 and continued the case to Sept. 19.

Police were called to Rosa’s Deli, 37 N. Colony Road, about 7:40 p.m. for a report of a man breaking into cars. Officers found Galeano in the rear parking lot with a General Motors master key and a small knife, according to a police report.

A witness reported seeing Galeano walking around the parking lot and then on his knees by a pickup truck. The witness confronted Galeano, who said he was “getting leaves” and was there to pick up a grill, the report said.
