WALLINGFORD — A local man accused of lewd behavior while watching children at a bus stop applied for accelerated rehabilitation during a court appearance Thursday.

Edward Buijnarowski, 72, of 1126 Yale Ave., was charged Sept. 27 with public indecency, second-degree breach of peace and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He posted $2,500 bond and appeared in Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday.

During the court appearance, Buijnarowski applied for accelerated rehabilitation — a program for first time offenders. If granted and successfully completed, the charges would be dismissed. The case was continued to Nov. 22.

On Sept. 26, the father of an 11-year-old girl reported that Buijnarowski had been acting suspiciously near a bus stop for weeks. The father told police Buijnarowski stood outside on several occasions, either behind a tarp or an open car door, and appeared to be touching himself in a lewd manner, said Lt. Cheryl Bradley. On Sept. 27, the father obtained video showing Buijnarowski masturbating while standing outside of his home in plain view of children at the bus stop.
