SOUTHINGTON — There was a large police and fire department presence in a neighborhood off Marion Avenue Thursday night after a resident reported a suspicious package at their home. It was later determined the resident ordered the package.

Police and fire crews responded to the area of Cobblestone Court and Frost Street about 7 p.m., said Lt Stephen Elliott.

For a period, roads were partially blocked and additional firefighters were called in for station coverage. It was eventually discovered that the package was actually an item a resident ordered, Elliott said.

Police cleared the scene after about an hour. Fire officials declined to comment, saying it was a police investigation.
