What is race?

Editor:

There is only one race that really means anything and that is the human race! We all came from the same ancestors and only because of where we lived for millenia made us appear different. Even if we all looked alike and were the same color, I feel that somebody somewhere would find even the slightest difference that would allow them to decide that those people were inferior.

I am reminded of a Star Trek episode where the people of a planet were at war with each other. These people were black and white right down the middle. Black on one side and white on the other. Captain Kirk asked why they were fighting and the so-called leader said that he was black on the right side and the enemy was black on the left. I don’t know if there is a cure for this bigotry because even if we are all the same, we don’t think alike and therein lies the problem. But maybe we can make an effort to understand why this exists. Education works both ways. One to teach us to be tolerant and the other to be intolerant. My way or the highway just doesn’t work. Otherwise this will never end and we will lose whatever we were destined to be.
