CROMWELL - Working with special needs children can be quite a learning experience for the children and the teachers. The American School for the Deaf honored Southington High School Special Education Teacher Jan Galati on Tuesday with the Outreach Education Award for her work with one particular deaf student.

The award was presented during a luncheon at the Contributing to Student Success conference, hosted by the American School for the Deaf Outreach Education Services at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

"We are so proud to have all of you here to celebrate educating deaf children," Outreach Coordinator Kathleen DonAroma said as she addressed the crowd of nearly 150 people.

The school wanted to recognize Galati's efforts working with one particular deaf student throughout the student's time at Southington High School.

"Jan consistently provided the best opportunities possible for the student to help meet her goal of attending the National Technical Institute for the Deaf," DonAroma said.
