Gun control activists mark Conn. law’s anniversary

HARTFORD (AP) — Gun control activists say they’re warning people that Connecticut’s gun control legislation, passed after the Newtown school shooting, is at risk.

A coalition of gun violence prevention groups, including Connecticut Against Gun Violence, has scheduled a news conference on Thursday to discuss plans for a campaign involving social media, billboards and activities featuring lawmakers.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to attend the event at the state Capitol. He signed the gun control bill into law on April 4, 2013.

The activists’ campaign comes as the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, a pro-gun rights organization, is planning a rally at the state Capitol on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the bill’s signing. CCDL still hopes to see the law overturned in federal court or repealed by the General Assembly.
