SOUTHINGTON — A family was displaced after a fire in a second-floor bedroom Sunday night.

Fire Lt. Eric Heath said the fire at 1487 Mount Vernon Road was reported shortly before 9 p.m.. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire that started in a second-floor bedroom had spread to the attic. The family, including two cats, got out safely.

Southington Social Services was called to assist the family with temporary housing, Heath said. The bedroom was destroyed, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
