Southington mother faces charges after police said she drove drunk with child in car

SOUTHINGTON — A woman resident charged with driving drunk with her child in the car is due to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Aug. 4.

Cynthia Sabino, 49, of 94 Bristol St, was arrested late Thursday night and charged with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree reckless endangerment, and failure to maintain lane.

Lt. Michael Baribault, police spokesman, said someone called the police station about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday to report a suspected drunk driver. The caller was driving behind a vehicle as it turned on Bristol Street and “nearly struck a street sign,” Baribault said.

Police investigated and found that Sabino appeared to be intoxicated and was driving in an “erratic manner,” while her 12-year-old child was in the car, Baribault said.

Sabino was released on a $3,000 bond. The Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
