Garbage truck hits utility pole, leaves over 1,000 without power in Southington


SOUTHINGTON — A garbage truck hit a utility pole at the intersection of Main Street and Grove Street, knocking out power for about 1,000 residents.

Mitch Gross said CL&P was notified about a vehicle accident at the intersection. The CL&P outage map shows 1,045 customers without power, about five per cent of the town.

Southington police said the accident happened about 10:30 a.m. an only involved the garbage truck. No injuries were reported, police said. A portion of Main Street (Route 10) is closed while crews work, police said.
