Man accused of breaking into Southington storage units extradited

SOUTHINGTON — A man accused of breaking into 131 storage units in 2008 was extradited from Florida and is being held on $50,000 bond.

Ted Bishop, 32, formerly of Portland, is charged with first-degree larceny, 131 counts of third-degree burglary and 131 counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz, police spokesman, said the charges stem from an investigation into break-ins at Southington Public Storage Facility on Spring Street in November 2008. Dobratz said 131 storage units were broken into and property worth more than $15,000 was stolen.

Police searched a home in Plainville in May 2009 and recovered many of the stolen items, Dobratz said.

Bishop appeared in Bristol Superior Court on Tuesday but did not enter a plea. The case was continued until Sept. 5.

Bishop is facing charges in five other cases, including several felony larceny counts, theft of a firearm, and burglary.
