WEST HARTFORD — Kevin Cop scored 40 seconds into overtime, knocking home a loose puck in a scramble in front of the net, to lift the Southington-Hall hockey team to a 4-3 win over Rockville-Bolton-Coventry-Lyman Memorial in a Division III game Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Rink.
The win was the fourth straight for the Warrior Knights and it pushed their overall record to 6-3.
Wednesday was a back-and-forth affair. Down 1-0 after one period, Southington-Hall surged ahead 2-1 with two goals in the second. Cody Backus tied it off assists from Dave Valentukonis and Jarod Florian before Florian put the home team ahead with a short-handed breakaway.
The visitors wound up scoring two goals in a 30-second span of the third period to reclaim a 3-2 edge, but Southington-Hall tied it up with 4:57 left in regulation when Backus knocked home a rebound of a Cop blast from the point.
Erich Bender had 27 saves in net for Southington-Hall.
