SHS swimmers bedevil Plainville

PLAINVILLE — It was a cold day for the Southington boys swimming team Wednesday until it hit the pool at Plainville High.

Led by double-winners Mack Golas and Joe Taglia, the Blue Knights captured 10 events to dunk the Blue Devils 92-81 in a CCC interdivisional meet.

Southington improved to 3-1 overall with the verdict.

Combined, Golos and Taglia gave the Blue Knights a sweep of the freestyle races. Golos won the distance events, taking the 200-yard free in 2:04.22 and the 500 in 5:46.82.

Taglia took care of the sprints, winning the 50 in 24.16 and the 100 in 53.69.

Golos and Taglia also teamed with P.J. Ramsey and Zach Blake to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.06). Earlier, Blake had won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.95.

In the medley events, Nick Brazil led the way for Southington. He took the 200 IM in 2:25.51 and joined Luke Davis, Matt Duszak and Charlie Morelli on the winning medley relay (1:56.48).

Duszak went on to qualify for the state trials with a first-place time of 1:08.45 in the 100 breaststroke.

Morelli, Brazil, Peter Masters and Taglia combined on the winning 200 relay (1:43.91).
