SOUTH NORWALK — Boomer DeMorro and the Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth ice hockey team had something of a roller coaster night Wednesday at the SoNo Ice House.

They fell behind host McMahon/Norwalk 3-1 by the end of the second period. DeMorro, one of LH-HK’s top players, had come off the ice with an injury.

Happily for he and the Trojans, the night ended on an upswing they can ride into the CIAC playoffs.

LH-HK rallied with three straight goals in the third period to take a 4-3 lead, gave up a tying goal with 1:40 to play in regulation, but rebounded to win 5-4 when DeMorro converted a feed from Rocko Cuccaro 5:51 into overtime.

The victory put LH-HK at 8-10 overall and that puts the second-year co-op team in the CIAC Division III tournament.

DeMorro finished with two goals. Cuccaro and C.J. Tangredi each had one goal and two assists.

Kyle Stoddard set up two goals, including the game-tying goal by Nick Baccaro midway through the third period.

One minute later, Cuccaro netted the goal that put LH-HK up 4-3. He was assisted by Tangredi and Manny Castro.

Zach O’Toole had 21 saves in the Trojans’ net.
