JUNIOR LEGION

Wallingford 9, Meriden 0: Blake Battiste allowed just three hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings to lead Post 187 to victory at Pat Wall Field.

Battiste fanned seven in the win. He did load the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Connor Bishop came on to close it out.

Offensively for Wallingford (2-2), James Michaud had three hits, a run, RBI and a stolen base.

Mitch Soldi had a two-run double and also scored to key a four-run Wallingford third inning.

Brendan O’Connell scored two runs, drove in one and stole a base in the victory.

Defensively, O’Connell, Michaud, Mark DeVince and Sam DeMaio all made highlight reel plays. The finest came in the top of the second when Michaud sprinted back full speed and dove fully extended to make an over-the-shoulder catch on a drive to the fence.

WALLINGFORD TWILIGHT

Downtown Merchants 10, New England Storm 3: Jim Cox went 4-for-4, with an RBI and a run to lead the Merchants (8-4) at Pat Wall Field.

Cox also pitched the first three innings and fanned eight in a no-decision. Brandon Lagueux threw the final four frames for the victory.

Mike Thomas, Cesar Santana and Sal Savo had two hits apiece for the Merchants. Cesar Gutierrez tripled and scored.
