Meriden 6, Westbrook 1: Post 45 rode the solid pitching of Dan Berger, Dmitri O’Donnell and Cam Fahey to turn back Post 103 in a Zone 3 game Wednesday night at Legion Field.

Berger and O’Donnell each went two scoreless innings, with O’Donnell (5-1) striking out four and earning the win. Fahey worked the final three frames, allowing the one run.

Meriden effectively put the game away early with three runs in the bottom of the first. Jon Walter (HBP), Hector Gonzalez (single) and Mike Gulino (walk) reached safely to load the bases with no one out.

Kyle Hartenstein brought in Walter with an infield single. Kyle Pelcher followed with a long two-run double.

Post 45 had another three-run outburst in the fourth inning, this time without the benefit of a hit. Dallas Defrancesco, Joe Kane and Gonzalez each walked, stole a base and scored. Two passed balls, one wild pitch and one balk fueled the rally.

With the win, Meriden stands at 20-9 overall and 17-8 in Zone 3 heading into tonight’s final regular-season home game at Legion Field.
