Two hurt in Wallingford crash

WALLINGFORD — Two people riding a moped were taken to the hospital after it collided with a car turning into the Staples Plaza on Route 5 Monday night.

Lt. Richard Homestead said the accident happened about 9:07 p.m. A scooter driven by Jeanette Solomon, 19, with a 13-year-old passenger, was driving south on Route 5. A 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by Sam McCray, 63, was driving north on Route 5 and turned left into the shopping plaza. While making the turn, the scooter struck the right rear portion of the Sonata.

The 13-year-old passenger, who was not identified, was treated at the scene and taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for leg injuries, Homestead said. He is listed in stable condition. Solomon was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, Homestead said. McCray and an adult passenger were not injured.

The southbound and left lane of the northbound side of Route 5 were closed for about two hours while police investigated. Witnesses are asked to call the Police Department at (203) 294-2805.
